Whether you care to admit it or not smoking causes bad breath along with other problems such as problems with your teeth. At the end of the day there are very many reasons as to why smoking causes you to have bad breath and problems with your oral hygiene. Of course you will find some things that will help short-term but really the best way to deal with smoking and bad breath is to give up the dreaded habit.
It is no doubt that smoking causes bad breath and it turns out that the main reason is because of the chemicals that are found in cigarettes. What happens is many of the chemicals end up building up inside your mouth especially on the inside surfaces. Yet another reason as to why smoking causes bad breath is because of the rise of temperature that occurs in your mouth. Oral tissue cells end up getting damaged and killed off. Now that these tissue cells are dead they can no longer protect the mouth so in turn bacteria is able to move around much easier. In the long run this could very well lead to a much more serious problem Oral hygiene.
When we talk about more serious problems with oral hygiene we are talking about possibly gum disease and very possibly mouth cancer. These are very common long-term effects for someone who smokes. Tobacco in your system beats up your immune system and does not allow it to fight infection the way it should. Another thing is blood vessels quit growing. Mixing both of these together gives you a good chance of getting gum disease or many different cancers of the mouth.
Lots of times smokers will try and deal with their bad breath by chewing on certain types of gum. This will help a little bit by neutralizing the smell that comes off you on after you have a cigarette. That's all fine and dandy but this gum is usually very expensive and only works for one cigarette. The gum has nothing to do with how bacteria moves around the inside your mouth and how it gets stuck inside your mouth. It's just like anything else, quick remedies turn out to be short-term fixes that even sometimes make the problems worse in the long run.

I don't think it will come to anyone as a surprise when I say quitting smoking is the best remedy. Immediately after you quit the problems that cause bad breath will begin to change. The first thing we notice is the saliva can again move more freely, with this happening the bacteria will start to be moved out of the mouth. The next thing is the blood vessels and the tissue cells will very quickly begin to repair themselves. Once you mix this together you'll be well on your way to fighting the bacteria that has been causing the bad breath.
Very quickly you will notice that the chemicals that have been stuck in your mouth will begin to wash away. Because of this there is no room for the bacteria to stick and stink up your breath. The minute you quit smoking any damaged areas of your mouth will begin to repair themselves. Not only will this help with the bad breath but you will also be able to work on the staining of the teeth and you will be making the chances of gum disease and oral cancer much smaller.
At the end of the day the decision to quit smoking is a decision that will help in numerous ways. By deciding to quit your mouth and the rest your body will become healthier and start to function more properly.
